Okay contestants, my judges have brought up a good point so I'll need to ask you all something (it might be best if the reply was sent via PM to reduce spam):

The original start date for the contest was to be Dec. 29. I didn't expect us to make a decision so quickly so I've bumped it to Dec. 21. However, that's before Christmas and I know many people will probably have plans or be travelling for the holidays. So my question is if Dec. 21 will be a problem and if I should wait until Dec. 29 to post the first assignment. Let me know!

Edit: I just found out that the towns will be decorated for Wintersday on Dec. 21, so that won't be an issue. And since Wintersday runs until Jan. 1, they'll remain decorated for a while.

yep i can start whenever ^^ I am going away for new years for about 4-5 days, so if assignments are a week long I should be ok if I work my butt off before I leave/when I return.

Assignment #1: Holiday Cheer

First of all I'd like to say congratulations for making it into Guild Wars' Most Wanted! And now for your first assignment.

Christmas is coming up and Wintersday has just started. So what better way to start off our competition than with a winter assignment?

What we want from you is to see your holiday spirit! This can be for either Christmas or Wintersday. Give presents to children, go for a sleigh ride, cheer on your favorite god as they battle it out, or even re-enact one of the traditional Christmas songs or stories. Make sure you're showing us that you're having a good time for the holidays, as the snow won't last long!

This assignment is due no later than Wednesday, Dec. 26 at 12am PST (2am CST). To send it, you can PM it to me here on Guru, or send it to one of the following emails (but just in case, it might be helpful to let me know you sent it there so I won't forget to check it).

Also, please follow these rules:

No editing (other than cropping), modding, PhotoShop, etc.
Please send a cropped and uncropped version of your picture
Headgear is allowed as long as it fits the theme
Please specify what you're trying to accomplish in the picture (what story, song, etc.)

Any viewers who would like to try the assignments are welcome to, but please don't post them until after the results are posted for the contestants, and please put them in the feedback thread. Same for any contestants who would like to post outtakes. Thanks!

I should have guessed that assignment 1 would be seasonal... Time to crack out the cold gear methinks.

Question: would an anti-holiday theme be acceptable, as long as it kept a solid link to xmas/wintersday that can easily be seen from the mood of the picture?

Toutatis: Yep, as long as it stays within the "wintery" theme, it's fine. Doesn't have to be holiday exclusive.

Caster: Captions are fine, as long as they're not added on the shot, just typed out with it. As long as you're somehow explaining what's going on.
